At the beginning of 2010 Blackgates was broken into. This resulted in a vast quantity of castings and nonferrous metal stock being stolen. Even though we took stringent security measures to prevent a repeat of this, we where once again broken into at the beginning of this year with the loss of more castings. The theft of metal and cable up and down the country is on the increase because of its currently high value and the ease that it can be turned into cash at some scrap metal merchants.

There is currently an e-petition to create a "Cashless Scrap Metal Trade" Amendment to the Scrap Metal Merchants Act of 1964. Please help us put a stop to this trade by giving your support to the prevention of metal theft by going to the above link.

Remember it is not only businesses that are effected, they are stealing every day items such as gates, manhole covers, pipes, electric and telephone cables, and it we be the public who end up paying for this with higher rates and utility bills.
